I was on a plane yesterday watching the Democratic debate where they railed
about "capitalism run amok" and some nonsense about the 1% (who pay WAY
more than their percentage of taxes). When we landed, I used my Smartphone
to reserve an Uber and make some useless comments on Facebook. Thought
about my experience of getting into a metallic tube that flew 2500 miles in
5 hours, watching video/sound signals (on CNN) in the sky and then using a
small piece of metal and plastic to send a signal to space to summon a car.
Thought about the motivations of the Wright Brothers (one of which was in
the first plane crash with a fatality), Henry Ford, Ted Turner, Richard
Branson, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerburg, Lee Byung-chul (the
founder of Samsung), Kiichiro Toyoda (the founder of Toyota) and Travis
Kalanick (founder of Uber). These were all people all over the world that
took massive risks to make the trip far easier. (This could have been a FAR
longer list if I included the power at the airport, the inventor of the
Escalator and whoever invented automatic doors.
